Palazzo Guinigi hosts the Historical Museum of the Liberation which brings together publications about the Liberation and various other types of documentary material. The reconstruction is outstanding of the various phases of the partisan struggle in the Lucca area where there were difficult and bloody battles during the dark years of the Second World War. The Historical Museum of the Liberation has taken on importance also at the international level for the ability of the organisers to establish relationships with ambassadors from countries who fought Nazi-fascism, permitting the inclusion of interesting documentation from various countries.
Established in 1988, this is a unique museum: in fact it reconstructs the history of the Italian army, navy and air force from 1940 to 1943. Photographs, maps, uniforms and special “reliquaries” are included in the collection, aiding reflection on the tragic events that shaped the history of our country in the 20th century.
